CSDi Development Community

Participartory engagement for cross fertilisation of ideas!

I am part of an online adaptation course OL 341 (http://www.csd-i.org/ol-341-adapting-climate-change/) working together with (DeBlieu & Siobhan) to develop a project in five villages in region of South-western Uganda which has been severely affected by increasing inappropriate resource utilisation and frequent droughts. This has lowered water tables, reduced crop harvests, and caused frequent food shortages for the 300 families (including 845 children) who live in the villages. As a result, many community
members are chronically under- or malnourished, which has a particularly
devastating impact on children under 5, who suffer from stunting. The stresses
produced by droughts and food shortages have also led to community conflicts
over access to resources, undermining the communities’ ability to solve their
common problems.

One of the three major activities in the project will focus on improved agricultural practices through farmer participatory learning on soil restoration and water conservation techniques.  I have therefore been able to come across useful grounded scientific findings supporting proposed activity; http://www.academicjournals.org/jssem/PDF/pdf2011/Sept/Fungo%20et%2...

I'm posting and sharing this important link today for those who may find it useful . Similarly, I request for some important resources that could help me in the development interventions in the context of organizing farmer participatory learning on soil restoration and water conservation measures for sustained crop production throughout the year (in a severely water stressed watershed area, coupled with frequent drought and resource conflict. Important links to websites or scientific papers that would help me in justification of intervention activities stated above for the project, or links to sites where I can download how-to field guides or manuals on implementing these activities with my community?
